Project Kindness in Your Hands

History
The project entitled “Kindness in Your Hands” started in 2011 in response to the high rates of child and adolescent abuse in the Macro District of Cotahuma, SCSJ’s intervention area. Faced with this issue, the Institution determined that there was a need for a community-based approach and therefore prepared a proposal to promote the culture of kindness in everyday relationships and respect for the rights of children and adolescents through the recovery, promotion and strengthening of practices and attitudes with kindness with support from the family, the school and the community.
Practice
The Project was successful in consolidating and applying the Community-based Intervention Model to promote kind in the treatment of children and adolescents, by means of four strategies:
  1. Implementing Community Points as spaces for integration that promote dialogue and participation.
  2. Fostering kindness in the family, the school and the community, strengthening life skills, and parental and institutional competencies related to positive relationships.
  3. The concept of ‘Kindness in your hands’ by promoting empowerment of the children and adolescents and by sharing messages about positive and kind relationships.
  4. Promoting networks which are based on the construction and strengthening of social organizations and inter institutional coordination.
